EU ORGANIC
EU Organic Certification EU organic certification is a process that verifies that products are produced and processed according to specific standards. This certification provides assurance to consumers that the products are organically produced.
The control and certification of EU (European Union) organic agricultural and aquaculture products are carried out within the framework of rules set by the European Parliament and the Council. Activities related to organic agriculture and aquaculture are governed by the provisions of Council Regulation
(EC) No 834/2007, published in 2007, and Regulation
(EU) 2018/848, which will replace it from January 1, 2025.
These processes can be summarized as follows:
- Operators wishing to engage in organic agriculture apply to CTR. During the application, the producer provides detailed information about the production area and methods.
- The contract date is the official start date of the operators's organic agriculture activities.
- CTR inspects the production area and methods of the applicant on-site. These inspections measure compliance with regulations and standards.
- Certificates are issued for operators with positive inspection results.
- The operators's certificate (master certificate) is a document showing that organic agriculture activities are conducted properly.
- The organic product certificate is issued based on the organic operators's certificate. This document, which allows organic products to be marketed as organic, is one of the factors that ensure the traceability of organic products and moves with the products.

What is the Organic Conversion Period? Areas, animals, bees, and aquatic products involved in organic agricultural activities are included in the conversion process. Products obtained twelve months after the start of organic farming in plant production are evaluated as in-conversion products. In-conversion products are marketed with the label "Organic farming in-conversion product." However, products obtained from animals in the conversion period cannot be marketed as in-conversion products, and labels and advertisements cannot use terms that suggest organic farming. The Organic EU logo is not used on in-conversion products. In a farm or production unit with partial organic farming or in the conversion period to organic farming, the farmer keeps organic products and in-conversion products and animals distinctly separated and maintains records showing this distinction.
Advantages of Organic Agriculture - Organic agriculturre is a production method that does not allow the use of synthetic chemicals, protects natural resources, and is among the leading sustainable farming techniques.
- Organic products, free from chemical residues, offer consumers healthier and more reliable food options.
- It guarantees consumers that products are produced using environmentally friendly methods.
- It promotes the sustainable use of natural resources and preserves biodiversity.
- Organic products may be economically more profitable for producers.
Organic Products and Export Once the inspection and conversion period are successfully completed, the producer is issued an EU organic certificate. This certificate allows the products to be sold in the EU organic market. Certified organic products are marketed with the EU organic logo. This logo assures consumers that the product is organically produced and complies with EU standards.
